One summer, while visiting my family, my grandfather drove around his old neighborhood and Farish Street. For my grandfather and others of his generation there are great memories of the almost forgotten "Black Mecca" of Mississippi. From the wall to wall people every weekend to big stars like Duke Ellington and Count Basie performing at the Crystal Palace.

I was born long after that time but I wanted find a way to pay homage to the once great neighborhood, the soul of Jackson. From that short trip down memory lane came Farish Street Soul.
